SAN DIEGO -- Another game, another lost weapon for quarterback Philip Rivers.
The San Diego Chargers will be without tight end Antonio Gates on Sunday against Tennessee. Gates hurt his ribs against the Raiders last week. He practiced Friday on a limited basis and the Chargers expressed hope he’d be able to play. But Gates is listed as inactive.
This is a blow for the Chargers. Gates was finally healthy this summer after dealing with foot injuries for the past four years. Now, he has another ailment. Randy McMichael will start in place of Gates.
The Chargers are now without four key offensive players. Running back Ryan Mathews is probably going to be back next week. He broke his clavicle Aug. 9. The team is also without left tackle Jared Gaither (back) and key receiver Vincent Brown (ankle).
