Recap: In the end, the Broncos made it a game after it committed four turnovers in the first quarter. Denver came back from a 20-0 deficit in the second quarter and made it a ball game. But in the end, the Broncos fell to 1-1 and they trail the 2-0 San Diego Chargers by a game in the AFC West.
Biggest area to fix: Peyton Manning has to start better. It’s as simple as that. Had Manning not thrown three interceptions in the first quarter, Denver could have easily won this game. Manning looked nervous, he was forcing the ball and he seemed unsure of himself in the first quarter after playing brilliantly at home last week. Maybe Manning was fueled on adrenaline last week, but he didn’t come close to making a mistake. The good news for Manning and Denver is he settled down and ended up playing well Monday night. But it is nearly impossible to overcome three first-quarter picks.
Biggest area to build on: The Denver defense as a well is impressive. The turnovers put the defense in a terrible situation, yet it played stout and improved as the game moved on. This unit isn’t great, but it has shown a lot of character. It showed it can keep the Broncos in games when Manning is less than stellar. That is a nice thing to learn in a loss.
What to watch for: Manning is going to face an old AFC South foe in Houston as the Texans visit Denver as the Broncos tough schedule continues.
