Mathews, Gates to play for Chargers

Both Ryan Mathews and Antonio Gates are active for the San Diego Chargers on Sunday against Atlanta.
It will be Mathews’ season debut. He broke his clavicle Aug. 9 on his first preseason carry. Mathews was questionable to play Sunday. Gates was probable with a rib injury. He didn’t play last week.
In a bit of a surprise, tailback Ronnie Brown is inactive. Curtis Brinkley has moved ahead of Brown on the depth chart.
