Lamarr Houston helped take over for the Oakland Raiders in Week 7 and he has been rewarded for it.

The NFL has honored Houston by naming his the AFC defensive player of week for his efforts in a 26-23 overtime win over Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Raiders trailed by 14 points in the second half. Houston has seven tackles (six solo), a sack and he made the play of the game with a forced fumble deep in Jacksonville territory that set up the game-winning field goal.

Oakland’s defense has struggled this season, but Houston’s play gives the 2-4 Raiders hope for the rest of the season.

In other AFC West news:

Denver quarterback Peyton Manning remains on top of Mike Sando’s MVP Watch this week after having a bye in Week 7. Manning can help his cause with a win over Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in prime time Sunday night in a game that would give Denver a winning record at 4-3.
