Shaun Smith almost re-joined the Kansas City Chiefs in September.

A favorite of coach Romeo Crennel, the Chiefs brought Smith back on to the team on Monday, according to the Kansas City Star.

The signing of the defensive tackle makes you wonder if defensive end Glenn Dorsey’s calf injury is serious, after he re-injured it at San Diego on Thursday. It was his first game back after missing several weeks. It means Dorsey’s time in Kansas City may to be coming to an end. When Dorsey was selected with the No. 5 pick in the 2008 NFL draft, many expected him to become a dominant player. He turned out to be serviceable, but far from dominant.

Expect Smith, who also played for Crennel in Cleveland, to be part of the rotation. I wouldn’t think the team would sign a veteran like Smith, who has not played this season but is said to be in good shape, to just to sit him on the bench.
