Will either team take advantage of the other team’s trend of starting slow Monday night when Denver visits San Diego in a pivotal AFC West game?

The Chargers have started slow most of the season. Denver has overcome double-digit first-quarter deficits the past two weeks to improve to 5-0.

Will something give in this game, which is crucial for the Chargers, who are 2-2 and in danger of falling 3.5 games behind Denver.

The Chargers, who play Kansas City and Oakland in the next two games, have a chance to get right. A fast start could help. But is it capable? Well, it may be because it seems the Broncos’ only current weakness is starting slow.

The following is the scores of Denver and San Diego’s games this season after the first quarter:

Denver

Opponents, First quarter score

Cincinnati, 0-0

Cleveland, 7-6

Oakland, 10-0

Dallas, 0-10

New England, 0-10

Total: 17-26

San Diego

Opponents, First quarter score

Oakland, 0-7

Baltimore, 10-7

Miami, 0-0

Pittsburgh, 0-14

Total: 10-28
