Denver

The Denver Post looks at Kyle Orton’s contract situation.

My take: This is getting interesting. When he was acquired as a piece of the Jay Cutler trade, Orton was considered a short-term answer. But if he continues to excel in Josh McDaniels' system and leads the Broncos to a big season, Denver will likely want to make him the quarterback of the foreseeable future. Orton could cost a lot, though, because effective quarterbacks are not cheap. But if he fits, he’d be worth it for Denver which will also have to deal with fellow potential free agents Elvis Dumervil and Brandon Marshall.

Kansas City

Tamba Hali is adjusting well to his new role.

My take: Then Chiefs are now using a 3-4 defense with Hali playing linebacker. The former first-round pick has transitioned well from defensive end and he is becoming one of the Chiefs’ best defensive players. It’s a perfect fit.

Oakland

The Raiders are on their way to putting up one of the worst offensive efforts in the NFL since 1970.

My take: It’s statistics like this that help show why things are getting worse in Oakland. We all know the Raiders have been historically bad for the past six seasons. But they are not improving. It is really puzzling how poor play can continue this long.

San Diego

The Chargers’ leaders are keeping their confidence despite being 2-2.

My take: I wouldn’t expect any different. This is not an emergency situation yet. The Chargers have gotten used to emergencies the past two years. Being 2-2 is just a bump in the road for this team.
