We had plenty of candidates to choose from for our player of the week this week as Kansas City, Oakland and Denver all won. It marked the first time since Week 16 of 2006 that three teams from the division all won on the same weekend.
We’re going to recognize the player of the game from the most important game of the week in the division: Denver receiver/returner Eddie Royal.
Royal scored on a 93-yard kickoff and a 71-yard punt return in the first half of Denver’s 34-23 win over San Diego. Denver improved to 6-0 and now has a 3.5-game lead in the division. No NFL team that led by 3.5 games during the season has not made the playoffs.
Royal became the sixth NFL player to return both a kick and a punt for a touchdown in a game since the merger in 1970. Yes, it’s a rare feat and it’s worthy of being the AFC West player of the week.
