One of the more intriguing draft prospects available in next week’s draft will be Notre Dame middle linebacker Manti Te'o.
Praised on and off the field, Te’o was considered a potential No. 1 overall pick during the 2012 college football season. However, after a poor showing in the blowout loss to Alabama in the national title game, the bizarre fake-girlfriend hoax and a poor combine performance, Te’o’s draft stock has fallen.
Yet many league observers think Te'o will be a first-round pick because of his overall success, improvement at his pro day and the fact that the hoax appears to be behind him.
Theoretically, all four AFC West teams could use middle linebackers. It appears only Denver, which drafts No. 28, could take Te’o in the first round. San Diego, which has the No. 11 pick, has reportedly brought Te’o in for a visit. That is probably for a trade-down scenario or if he falls to the second round. Once the draft starts, anything can happen, especially if trades are involved.
At this point, would you feel comfortable if your favorite team drafted Te’o? Please take our AFC West poll and express the reasons for your vote in the comments section below. We will review the poll results Wednesday.
