Denver

Dead money is not burying the Broncos.

My take: Indeed, the Broncos’ salary cap is somewhat strapped by the bad financial decisions made by the former regime. That is a primary reason why Denver wasn’t expected to do much this year. It is another example of how stunning this turnaround has been.

Kansas City

Marty Schottenheimer wonders what team would want Larry Johnson.

My take: It is a fantastic question. I’m not sure any team would take Johnson if (when) the Chiefs part ways with him. With his off-field baggage and declining production, Johnson will not be appealing on the open market.

Oakland

JaMarcus Russell has the support of his teammates.

My take: What are they supposed to do? As long as the Raiders keep Russell the starter, his teammates have to support him.

San Diego

Cornerback Antoine Cason is not happy about his demotion from the nickel corner spot.

My take: Cason should be unhappy. He needs to stay focused, though. Cason, the Chargers’ 2008 first-round pick, is a talented player and he has a chance to be good. If he handles this situation right, it will simply be a road bump in his career.
