Our player of the week has to come from San Diego, since the Chargers were the only team in the division to win in Week 8.
There were several outstanding efforts in the Chargers’ 24-16 win over Oakland, but we’re giving the honor to linebacker Shawne Merriman. This was a big game for Merriman as he fights to return to form after suffering a major knee injury last season.
Merriman registered his first two sacks of 2009 against Oakland. Merriman has been getting better each week. On Sunday, Merriman, who has been good against the run all season, displayed his vintage burst at times.
Merriman is an extremely hard worker and he is trying to be great. He is on his way.
