The Denver Broncos are heading to training camp with a banged up offensive line, so it is no surprise the team is looking at adding some veteran depth.
According to a league source, Travelle Wharton is flying to Denver on Wednesday night for a visit. He was cut by the Bengals on Monday. He visited with the Panthers on Tuesday, but a deal was not struck. If the Broncos and Wharton like what they see in each other, a deal could be made this week.
Wharton, 32, missed all of last season with a knee injury. He started 99 games for Carolina from 2004-11. He played all but one of those years for Denver coach John Fox with the Panthers. Wharton was known as a Fox favorite because of his effort and his role as a leader in the locker room.
So, this potential pairing makes a lot of sense.
UPDATE: Wharton has cancelled his visit to Denver. I get the sense he is looking for than what Denver is offering. He will sit and wait. Denver could always revisit.
