Oakland coach Tom Cable has decided to push back his decision whether or not to keep former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell as the team’s starting quarterback until Wednesday.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Cable said he wants to talk to Russell and backup Bruce Gradkowski, who replaced Russell late in the third quarter of a 16-10 loss to the Chiefs at home Sunday. Gradkowksi replaced the struggling Russell three weeks ago as well in a blowout loss.

Cable indicated after the game he would make the decision Monday. Now, the announcement will come Wednesday. The Raiders host 7-2 Cincinnati on Sunday.

The newspaper reports that Gradkowski had a hamstring injury Monday that could possibly play a role in the decision.

Gradkowski led Oakland on a late-drive that ended with an interception when the ball bounced out of the hands of rookie receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey. Russell completed 8 of 24 passes for 64 yards before being pulled. He threw seven passes that were dropped. Russell indicated Sunday he thought he‘d continue to be the starter.
