AFC West: Needs improvement

The following is an area each team in the division must improve upon:

Denver, second half play: The Broncos started off 6-0 because they dominated in the second half. The Broncos outscored opponents 76-10 in the second half in the first six games. Since then, Denver has taken a beating after halftime. They have allowed 58 points in the second half in three losses.

Kansas City, third-down conversion: The Chiefs converted one of 15 third-down conversion attempts last Sunday. This has been a season-long issues for the Chiefs. They have converted an NFL-low 20 percent of their third down attempts. The Chiefs have to learn how to extend drives or they will have no chance against Pittsburgh.

Oakland, penalties: The Raiders committed 10 penalties for 88 yards against Kansas City. The Raiders have been one of the league’s most penalized teams over the years. But the Raiders have been better disciplined this year. However, they took a step back last week. That has to improve if the Raiders have any chance to beat the Bengals.

San Diego, low-yardage plays: In the first half of the season, the Chargers had 92 rushes/completions for one yard or fewer (77 rushes and 15 completions), according to ESPN Stats & Information. That is an alarmingly high number. The Chargers are going to have to improve in this area Sunday at Denver.
