The following is a look at why I placed the AFC West teams where I did in the Week 5 NFL Power Rankings:

San Diego Chargers

Power ranking: 8

Where I picked them: I had the Chargers at No. 10 as the highest ranked two-loss team. They are moving up the rankings at a solid pace after losing their first two games. This is one of the league's most dangerous teams.

Denver Broncos

Power ranking: 11

Where I picked them: I had the Broncos slide five spots after a loss at Kansas City at No. 9. This was a perfect opportunity for Denver to go 4-0 and keep some room between them and the Chargers. Denver lost because of sloppy offense and another dose of bad defense. This is a good squad, primarily because of the offense, but that was a bad loss.

Oakland Raiders

Power ranking: 28

Where I picked them: I had the Raiders at No. 27. I have had them at No. 27 in recent weeks. Oakland could easily be 3-1 but its horrible fourth-quarter play the past two weeks has cost them dearly.

Kansas City Chiefs

Power ranking: 29

Where I picked them: I had the Chiefs at No. 28. I was tempted to put them higher but the Chiefs still have plenty of problems. Yes, the win over Denver was very nice but I have to see some consistency from Kansas City before moving it up the rankings.
