The following is a look at why I placed the AFC West teams where I did in the Week 7 NFL Power Rankings:

San Diego Chargers

  • Power ranking: 11
  • Where I ranked them: I had the Chargers 14th. I want to rank this team in the top five. I think they are that talented and they certainly showed that in the win over New England. It was the Chargers' most impressive game of the season. If this team can show some consistency, it will rise up the rankings soon.

Denver Broncos

  • Power ranking: 12
  • Where I ranked them: I had the Broncos 11th. This is a solid team and Denver should have beaten the Jaguars if it hadn't been for silly mistakes. Denver is 4-2 and is entering a pivotal game at New England on Monday night.

Oakland Raiders

  • Power ranking: 29
  • Where I ranked them: I had the Raiders 28th. The Raiders are headed in the wrong direction after their 34-3 drubbing in New Orleans.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • Power ranking: 30
  • Where I ranked them: I kept the Chiefs at 29th after their bye week. I was tempted to move the Rams ahead of the Chiefs after St. Louis' win at Washington. But I think, overall, the Chiefs are a tad better than their in-state rival.
