The following is a look at why I placed the AFC West teams where I did in the Week 8 NFL Power Rankings:

San Diego Chargers

  • Power ranking: 17
  • Where I ranked them: I had the Chargers 20th. Every time I move the Chargers up the rankings they take a step back. Maybe this is what this team is. Maybe it's just an inconsistent, mediocre team? I still don't think so, but I can't rank this 3-4 team any higher this week.

Denver Broncos

  • Power ranking: 18
  • Where I ranked them: I had Denver 18th. This team is floundering badly. It is killing itself with turnovers and with bad overall play on defense. This team is falling fast.

Oakland Raiders

  • Power ranking: 27
  • Where I had them ranked: I had the Raiders ranked 27th. It was a nice, resilient win over the Jets in overtime on Sunday. But the Raiders, until further notice, are in a cluster in the low 20s.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • Power ranking: 30
  • Where I had them ranked? I had the Chiefs at No. 30. This team is going nowhere fast and it is heading backward.
