Denver not happy with starter's weight

There were rumors during the offseason that the Broncos were not pleased with the weight of offensive lineman Montrae Holland. Those rumors became fact when Denver opened training camp Friday.

Holland, the starting right guard, is not practicing because he is too heavy. Coach Mike Shanahan has Holland working out on his own until he sheds weight. Shanahan said Holland needs to lose several pounds.

Holland, who is listed as 322, is big for a Denver lineman anyway. The team likes sleeker, faster linemen. However, Holland was one of Denver's most consistent linemen last year. He does fit in well.

With Shanahan keeping him away because of his heft, it is a sign Holland is not entrenched in the starting lineup. If Ryan Harris beats out Chris Kuper at right tackle, Kuper would easily slide into Holland's spot.
