Evening AFC West news and notes
By Bill Williamson
The Raiders gave backup cornerback Stanford Routt the high tender of a first-and-third round pick.
This is baffling. Why would Oakland do that? Routt is nothing special. He is not a starter. Even if Oakland put the first-round tender on Routt he wouldn’t have been attractive to teams. It just doesn’t make sense.
Oakland gave several other tenders to players. The highlights are a second-round tender for linebacker Thomas Howard and a third-round tender on linebacker Kirk Morrison. He could be attractive for some teams at that price.
- Kansas City signed quarterback Tyler Palko. He was on Pittsburgh’s roster for two games last season. He will have a difficult time making the roster.
