Denver news and notes

The Denver Post considers whether the Broncos will lower their asking price of a first-round pick for restricted free agent Brandon Marshall. The report suggests perhaps Denver will take Seattle’s second-round pick and fourth-round pick.

Seattle would probably do that deal in a heartbeat. But would Denver? The Broncos have maintained that they want a first-round pick for Marshall. So far, Seattle is the only team to show real interest.

ESPN’s AFC East blogger Tim Graham reports there's no truth behind the Jets’ reported interest in Marshall.

Denver owner Pat Bowlen told the Denver Post that he is pleased with the team’s offseason and that Kyle Orton is still the team’s starting quarterback despite the acquisition of Brady Quinn. Quinn will have a chance to beat out Orton, but he has a long way to go at this point.

There is a report that Miami is shopping guard Justin Smiley. Denver could use a guard and the 310-pound Smiley could fit the bill.

NFL.com is reporting Denver has shown some interest in free-agent center Kevin Mawae. The Broncos desperately need a center and there are few available, so Mawae could be a fit.
