AFC West notes
By Bill Williamson
Condolences to the family of Norman Hand. The massive defensive tackle played three seasons for San Diego. He died suddenly Friday at the age of 37.
Benglas.com believes it’s a long shot that former Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell will end up in Cincinnati because the Bengals don’t want to deal with a project. There has been no public interest expressed in Russell since he was released by the Raiders after three terrible seasons May 6.
The Oakland Tribune urges the Raiders to resist trading for San Diego linebacker Shawne Merriman. He has been shopped. I highly doubt this trade partnership will even be broached.
The Raiders signed veteran reserve guard Daniel Loper. He will compete to give the Raiders some veteran depth on the interior line.
The Broncos claimed guard Stanley Daniels off waivers from Green Bay. Daniels was on the Packers’ practice squad last season and the Jets’ practice squad in 2008. Daniels is 6-4 and 320 pounds. He will have a chance to make Denver’s roster. It is trying to get much bigger on the interior line as it makes the transition from a zone-blocking scheme to a power-blocking attack.
