Sporting News forecasts the AFC West
By Bill Williamson
Apparently, it is not too early to forecast the 2010 season.
The Sporting News has released its 2010 predictions as part of their annual yearbook and has an interesting take on the AFC West.
The publication has the San Diego Chargers playing in the AFC championship game, but losing to the Jets after beating the Colts in the divisional playoffs. New York upset San Diego in a divisional playoff game last season. This news probably makes former Charger and new Jet LaDainian Tomlinson smile a bit.
The publication has the Jets beating the Cowboys in the Dallas Super Bowl.
Here is its prediction for the AFC West: Chargers 12-4, Chiefs 9-7, Raiders 5-11, Broncos 4-12
Interesting for sure. I’m not quite ready to make my predictions. Still, I have some thoughts on these picks.
San Diego: The Chargers could win 12 games this season, but they will have to get the contract situations with Vincent Jackson, Marcus McNeill and Shawne Merriman figured out. The Chargers can’t win 12 games without these three players.
Kansas City: Wow, nine wins. That’s a big leap for a team has has strung together just 10 wins in the past three seasons. I believe the Chiefs will be improved, but if they win nine games coach Todd Haley should get serious coach of the year consideration.
Oakland: If the Raiders win just five games again this will be a disaster. If Oakland extends its NFL record of having 11 or more losses in eight straight seasons after switching quarterbacks, it would be a devastating blow. I, personally, think Oakland will win more than five games. I’m not sure how many more, but I expect the streak to be over.
Denver: I don’t know what to think about Denver. I don’t expect a great season. But 4-12 may be a tad harsh. I don’t think it will be that bad of a season in Denver.
