Around the AFC West

Denver

The Broncos’ run game has not been strong.

My take: The Broncos should be in much better shape when Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter return. However, the lack of an attack without these two shows how important they are to the team. If Moreno and Buckhalter, who have a history of injuries, miss time in the regular season, Denver could be in trouble.

Kansas City

The Chiefs are standing by struggling cornerback Brandon Flowers.

My take: Good idea. Flowers is a good player and he’ll be fine. The preseason is for working out kinks. Flowers is a positive for the Chiefs, not a negative.

Oakland

The Raiders’ defense is looking stout.

My take: This is a huge development. If the Raiders are going to make big strides this season, it will be because the defense improves greatly. So far, so good.

San Diego

Philip Rivers reminded everyone what type of player he is by making a big tackle on a fumble recovery in a preseason game.

My take: I’m sure hearts dropped throughout the city of San Diego when Rivers registered the hit, but that’s him. That’s his game. Preseason or not.
