Denver

My take: He could have a chance. The newly promoted defensive coordinator in Tampa Bay is very well respected around the NFL. Many league insiders expect him to be a head-coaching star. The only question is whether he's ready to be a head coach before even being a coordinator in the NFL. Morris may be a year or two away from getting a head-coaching gig, but the Broncos were very impressed with him.

Kansas City

My take: The Chiefs are being very secretive and deliberant about their general manager's job. But it is clear Pioli is their focus and he should be. If Kansas City hires Pioli, it would be a huge move for this organization that's stuck in the doldrums. The Chiefs needs to make this happen.

Oakland

My take: Of course not. Al Davis is an old pro at hiring coaches. He'll take his time. For the most part none of the names being bandied about for this opening are up for other jobs. Thus, the competition element may not be in play. Davis is a thinker and he is not going to rush.

San Diego

My take: The Chargers are riding high with a five-game win streak, which is the longest in the NFL. But it has been an up-and-down year in San Diego. The Chargers lost four games in the final minute this season. But now the close games are going their way. The Chargers finally seem like the team they were expected to be and it's coming at the right time.
