While San Diego's draft order is not yet determined because it is still alive in the playoffs, we are going to take a look, at the three other AFC West teams in the next three days and their preliminary needs in the first round.
With more than three months to go until the draft, needs and wish lists will change for each team and we will monitor the situation as the draft winds change.
For now, though, we are going to look at what could happen with each AFC West team. We will look at the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, the Oakland Raiders on Thursday and the Denver Broncos on Friday. We will look at the Chargers when their season is complete.
Kansas City Chiefs
Drafting: No. 3.
Needs: Defensive end, linebacker, offensive line, quarterback, receiver, running back
Possible first-round picks
Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia: The Chiefs have Tyler Thigpen and may opt to stick with him. Yet, Stafford could be enticing because of the way last year's No. 3 pick, Matt Ryan, turned around Atlanta.
Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest: The Chiefs' greatest need on defense, and overall, is defensive end. But Curry can be a difference maker.
Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State: He has terrific natural pass-rushing skills, The Chiefs need pass-rushing help in a hurry. They had an NFL-record low 10 sacks in 2008.
Wild card: The Chiefs are going to have a new general manager and perhaps a new coach. The draft plan will be made after the hires.
