Denver

Center Casey Wiegmann is coming back to the Broncos.

My take: This is a good move for Denver. Wiegmann had a Pro Bowl season last year in an emergency situation for Denver with standout Tom Nalen out for the year. Nalen is now headed to retirement. Wiegmann will keep continuity in Denver. He has one more year remaining on his contract. It wouldn't be a surprise if Wiegmann pursues a short contract extension from the team.

Kansas City

The Boston Herald reports there is chatter that the Chiefs could pursue Matt Cassel through a trade.

My take: This is no surprise. Scott Pioli came over from New England as the Chiefs' new general manager last month. The Chiefs will have a need for a quarterback if they decide Tyler Thigpen is not the answer. Cassel will be a free agent but if he is franchised the Chiefs can get him through a trade. Yes, there are hoops to go through and first. Kansas City has to figure out who its coach will be. But the Cassel-to-the-Chiefs talk has made sense for weeks.

Oakland

Here is a must read of the tragic figure that is Barret Robbins.

My take: Six years ago, the former Raiders' center dominated the headlines at the Super Bowl for all the wrong reasons. His life has further spun out of control in the years since but Robbins is slowly trying to rebuild his life. Perhaps peace is finally on the way for Robbins and his loved ones.
