D.J. Williams likely facing suspension
By Bill Williamson
Standout Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams was arrested early Friday morning in Denver on suspicion of driving drunk.
This was Williams’ second DUI arrest since he entered the NFL and it means the NFL will likely suspend him. San Diego receiver Vincent Jackson received a three-game NFL suspension this season after he was arrested twice for drunk driving.
It is not known how long the Williams’ process will last. Jackson’s second DUI arrest was in Jan. 2009, and the NFL process wasn’t resolved until the summer. So there is a strong chance Williams won’t face any NFL discipline this season.
Williams, Denver’s first-round pick in 2004, is having a strong season. He is leading the AFC West with 72 tackles. Denver coach Josh McDaniels said Friday that he is disappointed in the situation, but the team is still gathering facts and he is unsure if Williams will play Sunday when the Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs.
