Antonio Gates not yet ready
By Bill Williamson
San Diego star tight end Antonio Gates didn't make any progress on Thursday toward playing against the Denver Broncos Monday night. Gates had said on Wednesday that there was a 50-50 chance his injured foot would be ready. Gates had also missed the Houston game in Week 9 before the Chargers’ bye.
Rookie running back Ryan Mathews didn’t practice again with a recurring ankle injury. Like Gates, Mathews will be monitored through the week.
Receiver Malcom Floyd practiced fully after missing several games with an injured hamstring and, barring a setback, he should play Monday. Fellow starting receiver Legedu Naanee, who has also missed several games with a hamstring injury, was limited and he looks like he may be able to play Monday night as well.
Denver cornerback Andre Goodman, who has missed several games with a hip injury, didn’t practice Thursday.
Oakland cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha continued to make strides toward playing Sunday at Pittsburgh. Asomugha missed Oakland’s last game with an ankle injury.
San Diego fans will love what Denver cornerback Champ Bailey had to say about Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers: “He just hasn’t won the big one yet, and with the way he’s playing, I don’t see him not winning it sometime.”
