Another score for Chargers' defense

By Bill Williamson

INDIANAPOLIS -- The San Diego Chargers’ best offense is their defense, so far.

San Diego took a 26-14 lead over the Colts midway through the third quarter on an interception return by safety Eric Weddle. San Diego linebacker Kevin Burnett also has an interception return for a score. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who has lost four his past five games against the Chargers, has been intercepted three times. The Colts are 1-12 when Manning has been intercepted three times.

The Colts were furious Weddle wasn’t called for pass interference on his interception. Colts receiver Reggie Wayne fell after apparent contact by Weddle on the play. The play was shown on the big screen several times, including an entire series after the play. Clearly, the Colts feel wronged. They may have a point.

San Diego’s offense has only been able to muster four field goals. So far, the defensive points explosion has been enough.
