Football Outsiders hot on Chiefs again
By Bill Williamson
In an Insider piece, the highly respected Bill Barnwell of the Football Outsiders thinks Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles deserves MVP consideration. There’s no doubt, Charles -- who provided the game sealer in St. Louis with an 80-yard run late in the game -- has made a huge impact on the team, so it’s an interesting notion.
By the way, it may soon to be time to congratulate the Football Outsiders. They picked the Chiefs to win the AFC West this summer. First folks I saw do that. The Chiefs, who won a total of 10 games the past three seasons, could wrap up the division as soon as this week.
- The Raiders may need to bring in a punter this week as insurance for an injured Shane Lechler. Playing Indianapolis with their start punter would create a challenge for the Raiders as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
- The Broncos claimed former New England cornerback Chevis Jackson off waivers. They cut rookie linebacker Kevin Alexander to make room for Jackson. Alexander was arrested Monday morning. Clearly, the combination of Jackson’s arrival, Alexander’s arrest and his low profile on the team made him an easy cut.
- Oakland’s 98 combined points against Denver this season was the most any team has scored against another in a season since the merger.
