AFC honors Derrick Johnson
By Bill Williamson
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson has been named the AFC defensive player of the week for his performance in the team’s 27-13 win at St. Louis.
Johnson was all over the field as Kansas City’s defense took over in the second quarter after the Rams scored field goals on their first two drives. St. Louis didn’t score again until four minutes remained in the game. Johnson has 17 tackles and he had four passes defensed against the Rams. It was another Pro Bowl push for Johnson, who is flourishing this season.
Fellow Kansas City linebacker Tamba Hali won the honor earlier this season. It is the first time in 19 years that the Chiefs have had two players win the AFC defensive player of the week award. Linebackers Derrick Thomas and Tracy Simien both won the award in 1991.
