Chiefs sign veteran Thomas: The Chiefs continued their trend of signing older players by inking 35-year-old linebacker Zach Thomas. He is expected to be a starter in the Chiefs' new 3-4 defensive scheme.
Raiders sign Garcia: The Raiders gave themselves an insurance policy at quarterback in the form of journeyman Jeff Garcia, 39. If JaMarcus Russell gets hurt or if he regresses, Oakland could turn to Garcia.
Chiefs cut 2008 draft choice: Monday, Kansas City cut receiver Will Franklin. He was a fourth-round pick last season and the former Kansas City regime liked him. He was the 105th pick in 2008 and is the highest player in the class to be cut to date.
