It wouldn't be a surprise if half the AFC West is scurrying for tape of kicker Jay Feely this afternoon. Feely was cut by Miami Tuesday.
Both Denver and Kansas City are currently working with inexperienced kickers. The Broncos, which lost Jason Elam through free agency to Atlanta this offseason after 15 seasons in Denver, have Matt Prater as their kicker. Prater made 3 of 4 field goals in Denver's preseason opener Saturday night but he missed his first kick, a 30-yarder.
Kansas City has Connor Barth and Nick Novak in camp. The team likes both players but would likely show interest in an experienced kicker.
Denver seems at peace with Prater. While Feely would have to be intriguing to the Broncos because of his experience, it could be a situation where the Broncos want to see more of Prater before making a move. If Feely were pursued, there could be a competition in Denver. In that case, Feely would likely first look at a situation where he'd be the clear kicker. That could potentially be in Kansas City.
Will Feely end up in the AFC West? Who knows. But you know the idea is being considered.
