AFC West mailbag
By Bill Williamson
Adam Brown from Pine Bluff, Ark., wants to know if the Chiefs could end up drafting Auburn quarterback Cam Newton or Alabama receiver Julio Jones.
Bill Williamson: I don’t see the Chiefs making a move for a quarterback in the first round, perhaps in the later rounds in an attempt to find a backup. I could see Jones fitting in with the Chiefs. But they’d have to move up from No. 21 to get him. It would likely require a move of about eight spots to get Jones. The Chiefs could use help at several spots and with several strong pass rushers available, Kansas City might just be better off staying at No. 21 to see what falls to them.
Kyle from Santa Rosa, Calif., wants to know if the Raiders could move into the first round and take Florida center Mike Pouncey.
BW: I could see Pouncey fitting in with the Raiders. But I can see a lot of players fitting with Oakland. If the Raiders decide to move up, I think Pouncey would certainly be on the list of players Oakland would consider.
Ryan from N.J. wants to know if Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley is taken by Carolina with the No. 1 pick, who I think Denver could take at No. 2.
BW: I think Denver would consider either Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers or LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson in that scenario. Things can change in the next two-plus months. If Champ Bailey leaves through free agency, Peterson could become the target. But I know Denver likes Bowers. I could see Denver coach John Fox wanting to start his Broncos’ regime with a top flight pass rusher of Bowers’ stature.
