Kansas City and Oakland headlines

Kansas City

The Chiefs like their rookie defensive linemen, Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee.

My take: These two players are keys as Kansas City transitions to a variation of the 3-4 defense. If Jackson and Magee develop quickly, Kansas City's defense has a chance to be strong. It's a new era in Kansas City and defensively, it revolves around these two players.

Oakland

Top pick Darrius Heyward-Bey dropped three straight passes Saturday.

My take: I was at Oakland's minicamp Friday and Heyward-Bey looked decent. Saturday, though, his college problems crept back into his game. It is clear Heyward-Bey is not a finished product. He has some maturing to do as a player. But Oakland fans shouldn't fret yet. This is just a minicamp. After all, it's better to see dropped passes in May than it is in October.
