By Bill Williamson

Denver Broncos second-year cornerback Perrish Cox will go to trial in a sexual assault case that could put him prison him for the rest of his life.

Cox pleaded not guilty in a Douglas County, Colo., courtroom to sexual assault charges. Cox is charged with one count of sexual assault while the victim was physically helpless and one count of sexual assault while the victim was incapable of determining the nature of the conduct.

The trial is set to start Oct. 18. The Broncos have a bye on Oct. 16. They play at Miami on Oct. 23.

Court documents say the alleged assault happened on Sept. 6. He was arrested Dec. 9 and is free on bond. Cox continued to play last season after his arrest. Cox was a fifth-round draft pick in 2010. He started nine games last season. He had 59 tackles and one interception.
