Brandon Marshall's actions are being questioned.
My take: The Pro Bowl receiver ramped up the talk on Wednesday about how much he wants to leave Denver by disengaging himself from practice and admitting he doesn't know the team's new playbook. Marshall was running with the scout team. He wants to be traded. Marshall was threatening to hold out. He came to camp to avoid a fine. He has admitted that. However, if Marshall thinks he can come to work and not work, well, he might be setting himself up for a team suspension. This thing seems like it is going to get uglier before it gets better.
Zach Thomas is dealing with an injury.
My take: The Chiefs need him to recover quickly. Thomas is a leader on the defense and he is basically a coach on the field. The young Chiefs need his leadership.
A local columnist says JaMarcus Russell needs to learn from a tough day.
My take: Russell needs to learn from every day. He struggled against the 49ers in a joint practice Wednesday. He threw three interceptions in the morning session. He said it "wasn't the end of the world." He's right. There's going to be bad days. But this has to show the talented but inconsistent quarterback that improvement needs to be made daily.
The Chargers will see Ed Hochuli again.
My take: Hochuli is working San Diego's preseason game at Arizona on Saturday. It will be the first time the Chargers see him since he made a wrong call that helped cost San Diego a game at Denver in Week 2 last season. It's good that they are getting this first meeting out of the way during the preseason. Hochuli will officiate future San Diego games, so everyone is going to have to get used to that notion.
