Report: Raiders trying to grab Cromartie
By Bill Williamson
NFL.com is reporting the Raiders are fighting the Jets for the services of New York cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Cromartie would replace Nnamdi Asomugha and would team with Stanford Routt.
It would give Oakland a decent pair of cornerbacks, but Cromartie is not in Asomugha’s class. Cromartie makes some plays, but he is not very instinctual and he takes a lot of chances.
He won’t be cheap, either. The Jets want him after losing out on Asomugha, so the price tag will be high. If signing Cromartie hurts Oakland’s chances of doing anything else (including keeping Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller), that would be troublesome.
Perhaps helping keep Miller in Oakland, Todd Heap has agreed with Arizona. So, there goes another tight end job. That’s good news for the Raiders.
At this point, I’d be very surprised if Miller did not stay in Oakland.
Houston fullback Vonta Leach has gone to Baltimore. The Broncos were reportedly in on him.
This is what Asomugha had to say about joining the Eagles: "When a team wants you, you can feel it. And when you feel that match, I don't think you can shy away from that."
I get the feeling Asomugha never had any intuitions of going back to Oakland.
