Chargers make shrewd ticket move

The San Diego Chargers announced Thursday that they are packaging tickets to their regular-season game against Green Bay with a preseason game against Seattle next week.

There are many reasons for this move. First, it makes Green Bay fans (who travel in droves) think twice about buying tickets. They basically have to pay double for the game. Still, many Green Bay fans will bite and the Chargers will get a nice preseason gate it may not otherwise enjoy. I don’t blame San Diego if it is trying to discourage Green Bay fans from coming to the match.

When I covered the Packers in 1999, Green Bay visited San Diego and the stadium was basically Wisconsin West. There were way more Green Bay fans in the stands than Chargers fans and San Diego clearly remembers.

In other AFC West notes:

ESPN’s’ Adam Schefter has reported the 49ers are offering safety Taylor Mays in a trade. The Raiders could potentially use a young safety, but it’s not pressing.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that starting cornerback Brandon Carr has signed his restricted free agency tender and that they signed veteran safety Sabby Piscitelli. Piscitelli has played in 50 games (with 20 starts) for Tampa Bay and Cleveland. He will likely be a backup in Kansas City and have a chance to play special teams.
