Terrelle Pryor set to join Raiders

The suspension of Oakland rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor is over.

The Raiders are expected to activate him to the 53-man roster this week. Usually, in cases of suspensions, the player can practice during the week and the team isn’t forced to make a corresponding roster move until the end of the week. That should be the case here.

Pryor was suspended by the NFL for five games as part of his allowance into the supplemental draft this summer after a sticky conclusion to his career at Ohio State. The Raiders took Pryor in the third round of the supplemental draft. Pryor appealed the suspension but it was not overturned. Pryor was with the team toward the end of the preseason. He did not play in the preseason. He was allowed to work at the facility, to study the Raiders' playbook and to meet with coaches during the suspension. He was not allowed to play or practice.

The Raiders were resigned to the fact that Pryor would miss a chunk of his rookie season. Now that Pryor is now going to be part of the Raiders’ active roster, don’t expect to see him on the field soon. He is a project, who has had limited practices with the Raiders. The team will likely make him the No. 3 quarterback behind Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller and allow him to learn the system.

I could see Pryor being worked into some packages late in the season if the timing is right. But for the most part, Pryor is a work in progress who is now finally able to be part of the Oakland organization.
