Raiders put heat on Chargers
By Bill Williamson
The Oakland Raiders just sent a serious message to the first-place San Diego Chargers.
The Raiders don’t plan on going anywhere -- but the playoffs, of course.
The fact that Raiders responded to Jason Campbell’s broken collarbone by acquiring Carson Palmer from Cincinnati for a first-round pick and a second-round pick that can become a first-round pick, shows they mean business and they think they can make serious noise in the AFC this year.
Instead of rolling with backup Kyle Boller, the Raiders acquired the best quarterback currently available.
They are telling the Chargers they are coming after them.
Oakland coach Hue Jackson recently made noise when he predicted the Raiders will win the AFC West. Tuesday’s move is another bold sign of confidence. The Raiders think they can outlast the Chargers, who are 4-1 and lead the 4-2 Raiders by a half game.
I can’t wait to see these two teams meet in San Diego on Nov. 10 as the Palmer-led Raiders challenge the Chargers.
