Kansas City Chiefs: Moving on
By Bill Williamson
A look at the Chiefs’ 17-10 home loss to Denver on Sunday:
Recap: The Chiefs were ineffective in all phases Sunday as they blew another home game. The Chiefs are 4-5. Kansas City’s season has been one of streaks. They started the season 0-3, then won four straight. They have now lost two in a row -- at home to Miami and Denver. The Chiefs trail Oakland by a game and are tied with the Chargers and Broncos for first place.
Biggest area to fix: Run defense. Denver gained 244 yards on 55 carries. The Broncos just rammed the ball down the Chiefs' throats. In future games, opponents will throw much more than the eight times Denver threw it. But if Kansas City tightens this area, opponents will run less often.
Biggest area to build on: Running backs Jackie Battle and Dexter McCluster had a combined 106 yards rushing on 17 carries. Battle had been struggling so to see him have success is important for the Chiefs moving forward.
What to watch for: The Chiefs are limping in the teeth of their schedule. They were hoping to be 6-3, but home losses to the Dolphins and the Broncos ended that pipedream. The Chiefs are entering a brutal a five-game stretch.
