The battle is back to Nick Novak and Connor Barth for the Chiefs' kicking job now that the team made the stunning move of cutting veteran Jay Feely, a day after signing him.
It will be interesting to see how the young kickers react. Both players have one more game, Thursday against visiting St. Louis, to make their case to be Kansas City's kicker. Novak had the edge going into last week's game at Miami, but he missed his only attempt. That's when the team brought in Feely on Monday. However, Feely was chopped Tuesday after a poor showing Monday and a decent showing Tuesday.
Apparently, Kansas City didn't think Feely was far enough ahead of Novak and Barth so as quickly as the Chiefs decided to bring in Feely, they decided to usher him out.
It will be interesting to see if Novak or Barth are rattled by this week's development. In actuality, they should be recharged. They both essentially beat out Feely in a two-day tryout.
Now we are onto the final round of what has become a fascinating competition.
