Bowles interview good start in Oakland

We found out three things about Reggie McKenzie on Wednesday evening.

The new Oakland general manager is not wasting any time in finding Hue Jackson’s replacement, he is not simply waiting for Green Bay assistants to become available and he is open to hiring a defensive coach.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that former Miami interim head coach Todd Bowles will be interviewed by McKenzie, who was just hired away from Green Bay to lead the Raiders in the post-Al Davis era.

I expect several candidates to emerge and Bowles is a strong candidate. He has received a lot of interest around the league and he is known as a strong up-and-comer. It is worth noting that he is a defensive specialist. The last Raiders’ coach that was a defensive-first coach was John Madden and he was hired in the early 1970s.

This is just the start of the process, but talking to Bowles is a good first move by McKenzie.
