McCoy concentrates on Miami, not Oakland
By Bill Williamson
Mike McCoy’s decision to concentrate on the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching job affects two AFC West teams. McCoy is set to interview with the Dolphins for a second time on Thursday. He reportedly is one of three finalists for the job.
Thus, the Denver Broncos may have to make plans to find a new offensive coordinator and the Oakland Raiders may have to take a name off their list in their head coaching search. McCoy was expected to interview with the Raiders on Wednesday, but he postponed because he is preparing for and traveling to his second interview with the Dolphins.
A coach can’t be blamed for concentrating on a second interview. If McCoy isn’t selected by Miami, Oakland could reschedule the interview. There are five other names that have, or will reportedly have, an interview in Oakland.
Meanwhile, Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen did interview with Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie on Wednesday as expected. The Contra Costa Times reports New Orleans offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is being pursued by the Colts. He is reportedly on Oakland’s list as well.
