There is still some coaching-carousel movement to be done in the AFC West. Let’s take a look at where we stand:
Denver: The Broncos could be looking for two new coordinators. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy may be close to becoming the head coach in Miami. Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is a candidate in Oakland. If Allen gets that job, Denver will be hiring its seventh defensive coordinator in seven years.
Kansas City: The Chiefs need to hire an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. I think the most important hire will be the offensive coordinator. New Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel (he was formerly the team’s defensive coordinator) plans on continuing to call the defensive plays. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if a position coach is promoted from within. Yet, I think Crennel is going to look outside of the organization for an offensive leader. I talked to Crennel recently and he said he planned to so some interviewing at the Senior Bowl next week.
Oakland: This is the big show we’re waiting for. The Raiders are looking for a new head coach. There are several candidates and more could emerge. New Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie has interviews scheduled for next week, so that’s an indication that there is no rush to make a hire. Several -- if not an entire staff -- assistant coaches will be hired as well.
San Diego: The Chargers don’t have much to do right now. They have been interviewing candidates for a secondary coach job.
