Chargers give Brown welcome gift
By Bill Williamson
The Chargers installed the Wildcat offense Wednesday. One player who is plenty familiar in the offense is newly signed backup running back Ronnie Brown.
Brown successfully ran the Wildcat offense in Miami. The Chargers have used the Wildcat in the past at times. I would be surprised if it becomes a major part of the team’s offense. But coach Norv Turner has a varied arsenal, so the fact that the Wildcat is part of the Chargers’ playbook again is not a stunner.
Meanwhile, respected NFL analyst Greg Cosell thinks San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers is the toughest pocket passer in the NFL. I love Turner’s response to U-T San Diego about Cossel’s thoughts: "I don't need someone from the outside watching tape to tell me that.”
Meanwhile, Turner had high praise for newly signed receiver Eddie Royal. I think we will see Royal play a lot in multiple receiver sets and have a chance to be a dynamic returner. The former Denver receiver has skills and he should benefit from a change of scenery.
