L.T. a Bronco? Not a good idea
By Bill Williamson
The thought of LaDainian Tomlinson ending his career in a Denver Broncos' uniform was interesting. But it was best for all parties that it never materialized.
Tomlinson told U-T San Diego that he considered signing with the Broncos. Tomlinson, who spent nine seasons with the Chargers before they cut in him in 2010, instead signed with San Diego and retired Monday.
Tomlinson and quarterback Peyton Manning share the same agent, Tom Condon.
“The only team I really gave a thought to was the Broncos, because of Peyton [Manning]," Tomlinson told the paper. "We talked. Tom talked with them ... It made me pause a little (and think), 'Was this what I really want to do?'
"I said, 'They got Peyton, they have a good defense already; they went deep in the playoffs with Tim Tebow, what are they going to do with Peyton?' I seriously thought about it."
I think the best scenario is the way it played out. Tomlinson, who turned 33 Saturday, is finished as a player. The move wouldn’t have helped Denver and playing for a division rival would have further tarnished his image in San Diego.
The fact that he made up with the team and retired now as a Charger was the best thing he could have done.
