Raiders RB Mike Goodson on the mend

By Bill Williamson

Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen said injured running back Mike Goodson is doing "a lot better," but he is still "sore" after suffering a neck injury Tuesday in practice.

I’m sure Goodson and the organization will likely take him just being sore, as it could have been much worse. In a frightening scene, Goodson was taken off the field in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital after being hit by linebacker Philip Wheeler. Goodson had feelings in his extremities and an MRI showed no serious damage. He was released from the hospital a few hours later.

It appears Goodson should be fine and back with the team in a timely manner unless there is an unexpected setback. Don’t be surprised if Goodson, the team’s backup to star Darren McFadden, doesn’t play Monday as the Raiders look at some backs who are trying to make the roster, including Lonaye Miller of Fresno State.

Allen said the Wheeler hit on Goodson was not a helmet-to-helmet hit, just a “freak thing.”
