WR Rod Streater replaces inactive Moore
By Bill Williamson
OAKLAND -- Rod Streater's incredible journey from Temple to the NFL is taking an mind-blowing turn.
He is expected to start in his first NFL game on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”
Streater will likely start opposite Darrius Heyward-Bey against San Diego with Denarius Moore out because of a lingering hamstring injury. Moore is inactive. It is a bit of a surprise since he did practice last week and was listed as questionable to play.
With Moore, a fifth-round draft choice last year, down it is now Streater’s turn. Streater was undrafted in April. Yes, undrafted.
Streater was a star in the offseason and then he excelled during the preseason. No. 3 receiver Jacoby Ford is also out with a foot injury. Injuries have given Streater his regular-season start, but Oakland is confident in him. If he plays well, he will stay in the rotation.
Moore has missed a month and he does not have a good rhythm with quarterback Carson Palmer because of the lost practice time. Oakland probably decided it wasn’t worth risking losing Moore longer if he has a setback. I’d think Moore will play soon, but until then, it is Streater’s time to shine.
Also, Alex Parson will start at center in place of Stefen Wisniewski. Wisniewski has barely practiced this summer, but should be ready soon. If Parson plays well, I could see him staying at center and Wisniewski repacking Cooper Carlisle at left guard. Wisniewskii shined as a rookie at left guard last season.
In addition to Ford and Moore, Oakland’s other inactive players are Terrelle Pryor, Jack Crawford, Tony Bergstrom, Joe Barksdale and Lucas Nix.
The only inactive player that was a mild surprise for the Chargers was nose tackle Antonio Garay. He was questionable on the injury report. Still, the Chargers are deep on the defensive line. Aubrayo Franklin will start at nose tackle.
Here are San Diego’s other inactive players Monday night: Ryan Mathews, Brandon Taylor, Jonas Mouton, Antonio Garay, Jared Gaither and Ladarius Green.
